Welcome to an exciting journey of creating your very own pair of sterling silver earrings from silver clay. Hosted at the picturesque Oaken Grove Vineyard, this workshop offers a hands-on experience where creativity meets craftsmanship.

Getting Started with Silver Clay

We'll begin with 5 grams of silver clay, a unique material that allows you to mold and shape your earrings or pendant with ease. Silver clay is composed of microscopic particles of silver mixed with an organic binder and water, making it pliable and perfect for crafting intricate designs.

Choosing Your Design

The first step in this creative process is selecting the shape of your earrings or pendant. Consider the following tips to help you decide:

  • Classic Shapes: Circles, ovals, and squares offer timeless elegance.

  • Organic Forms: Nature-inspired shapes like leaves and flowers add a touch of whimsy.

  • Abstract Designs: Experiment with asymmetrical or geometric patterns for a modern look.

Adding Texture

To make your creation truly unique, we'll guide you through adding texture to the clay. Here are some techniques you might explore:

  • Impression: Use stamps or natural objects like leaves to press patterns into the clay.

Firing Your Creation

Once you have shaped and textured your earrings or pendant, it's time to transform the clay into solid silver. This process involves:

  • Drying: Allow your piece to dry completely to avoid cracking during firing.

  • Firing: Using a torch, the clay is heated to high temperatures, burning away the binder and leaving behind pure silver.

Polishing and Finishing

After firing, your jewelry will have a matte white finish. Here's how we bring out its shine:

  • Polishing: Use abrasive papers or polishing tools to smooth the surface and enhance the silver's luster.

  • Finishing Touches: Add earring hooks or a pendant bail to make your piece wearable.

What do I need to bring?
  • Nothing - Everything is included in the cost of the workshop.

On arrival you will be able to enjoy a coffee/tea, followed by a glass of Oaken Grove fizz or equivalent soft drink served during the session. 

Level:  Beginners, no previous experience necessary.

Terms & Conditions - The fee for the workshop is payable when booking. If you need to cancel your booking, we are unable to offer a refund. You may however be able to nominate someone else to attend the workshop in your place. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. We will only cancel due to sickness or insufficient places sold.  If we have to cancel you will be refunded the full amount paid or given the option to transfer your booking to another workshop.
