If you fancy having a go at book binding but feel daunted by the process then this may be the workshop for you.
During this workshop Janina will take you through all the steps to make 3 different styles of handmade books. She will demonstrate how to make each of the books and will provide one to one help, as well as detailed written step by step instructions.
Once you've mastered the basics of each of these styles of books they can be taken in many different directions, using a variety of materials and by changing the sises and shapes.
The three books are:
Pamphlet stitch book A5 portrait. This is probably the easiers of the bookbinding stitches bur it is very versatile.
Japanese stab stitch. A6 landscame and using a simple ttraditional stitch pattern.
Origami style flower book. 11cm square.
What do I need to bring?
Cutting tools: cutting mat, sharp cutting knife or craft knife, metal ruler and scissors.
Drawing tools: sharp pencil and an eraser.
Blunt ended sewing needle with large eye (e.g. tapestry needle size 20)
2 x bulldog clips
Extra tools for students to bring if you have them orhetwise they can be borrowed from Janina on the day:
Awl or braddle (for making hold in paper and card)
T Square ruler (for getting accurate 90 degree measurements)
Paper knife/clip knife/shoe knife (for trimming paper)
Our workshops include unlimited tea and coffee and we usually have biscuits and/or cake too.
If you are attending a full day workshop please bring your own lunch.
Level: Beginners, no previous experience necessary.
Terms & Conditions - The fee for the workshop is payable when booking. If you need to cancel your booking, we are unable to offer a refund. You may however be able to nominate someone else to attend the workshop in your place. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. We will only cancel due to sickness or insufficient places sold. If we have to cancel you will be refunded the full amount paid or given the option to transfer your booking to another workshop.
