In this workshop Janina will lead you through all the steps involved in painting a building in pen line and watercolour wash.

Janina will guide you through the process for creating your own painting including simple skies, using masking fluid, watercolour washes, looking for details and adding texture.

The workshop will include a discussion about watercolour paint selection and colour mixing.

You will be working from images supplied by Janina.

What do I need to bring?

  • Watercolour paint pans or tubes - blue (eg phthalo or cobalt or ultramarine), yellow ochre, Payne’s grey, burnt sienna, sap green. Buff Titanium is very useful for buildings.
  • Watercolour paper – for example Cass Art A4 hot pressed (HP) smooth 300gsm. You will need a  sheet for the painting and another sheet for testing colours and masking fluid.
  • Watercolour brushes – small round number 2, medium round number 6. A small flat number 2 is useful for brickwork
  • Fine waterproof black pen eg Staedtler Pigment liner 0.3
  • Pencil, sharpener, eraser
  • Mixing palette
  • Jam jars for water
  • Kitchen roll
  • Hairdryer

If you have the following please bring them otherwise they will be available from Janina on the day:

  • Trace down paper or graphite paper
  • Masking fluid
  • Dip pen

Our workshops include unlimited tea and coffee and we usually have biscuits and/or cake too. 

If you are attending a full day workshop, please bring a packed lunch.

Level:  Beginners, no previous experience necessary.

Terms & Conditions - The fee for the workshop is payable when booking. If you need to cancel your booking, we are unable to offer a refund. You may however be able to nominate someone else to attend the workshop in your place. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date. We will only cancel due to sickness or insufficient places sold.  If we have to cancel you will be refunded the full amount paid or given the option to transfer your booking to another workshop.
